Jeffrey W. Buckman - Attorney

Jeff's areas of practice include business, corporate, and real estate transactions, estate planning, and general civil litigation. Jeff has successfully handled complicated and high profile litigation matters in both State and Federal Courts throughout Michigan, including several multi-million dollar recoveries involving personal injury. He is an experienced trial lawyer with success in complex commercial litigation cases of virtually every type.

His representative clients range from financial institutions, insurance companies, manufacturers, and a variety of closely-held companies of all sizes, to individual business owners, shareholders, executives, professionals, and other individuals. Jeff knows his way around a courtroom and has had tremendous success on behalf of his clients for decades. Jeff also has an active mediation/alternative dispute resolution practice.

Jeff has successfully mediated numerous cases in State and Federal Courts throughout Michigan and takes great pride in the fact that an extremely high percentage of the cases he mediates settle as a result of the mediation. Jeff consistently demonstrates dedication, leadership, and going above and beyond to achieve the best interests of his clients and is an accomplished leader in the profession.

Douglas R. MacDonald - Attorney

Doug has practiced law in the Holland area since 1985. His practice includes business, corporate, and real estate transactions; business management and operational issues; business entity formation and organizational issues; business ownership issues; commercial and residential leases; business and estate planning; and probate and trust administration. 

Doug graduated from George Washington University National Law Center in 1985 (J.D. with honors). While in law school, Doug served as Managing Editor of the George Washington Journal of International Law & Economics (1984-1985). Previously, Doug completed his undergraduate degree at Alma College in 1982 (B.A. Business Administration & Political Science summa cum laude).

Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Doug grew up in Buffalo, New York and Western Michigan. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children. Doug enjoys skiing, fishing, hunting, and backpacking.

James O. Brown - Attorney

Jim has been helping clients since 1980 with matters involving business, real estate, and construction law. He has particular expertise in working with family businesses; including corporations and limited liability companies; condominium developers and owners' associations; commercial and residential real estate developers and building contractors; and landlords and tenants.

Active in the State Bar of Michigan, Jim has served as co-chair of the Real Property Law Section's Special Committee on Condominiums, PUDs, and Cooperatives. Jim is also a speaker on condominiums and real estate topics.

Jim and his wife, Becky, live in Port Sheldon Township. They have four grown children and several grandchildren. Jim enjoys singing, playing trumpet, hunting, and golf.

Anne L. Tuinstra - Attorney

Anne is an experienced mediator and litigator, primarily practicing in the areas of Divorce and Family Law; however, she also maintains a busy Civil Litigation, Estate Planning and Business practice.

Anne is skillful and compassionate as she guides her clients through some of life’s most difficult experiences. Anne’s attentive and sympathetic demeanor combined with her expertise, efficiency and strong work ethic give her clients an immediate sense of trust.  Her knowledge of the law and passion for her clients make her a focused, dedicated advocate.

Anne graduated from Grand Valley State University in 1997 and earned her law degree from Michigan State University – Detroit College of Law in 2001.  She started her legal career defending workers’ compensation claims and litigating complex banking, real estate and insurance cases. For a number of years in between her years in private practice, Anne enjoyed her role as In-House Counsel for two fast-paced, international companies. However, her passion for working with people and navigating tough circumstances for individual clients brought her back to private practice.

Anne resides in Holland with her husband and their three children. She enjoys spending time outdoors in all of Michigan's seasons, taking advantage of beautiful beaches and a variety of winter sports. Anne also loves traveling, running, reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.

Jenny L. DeGraves - Attorney

Jenny takes pride in serving clients, families and businesses with integrity and attention to her client’s personal goals. Her practice focuses on business, estate planning and real estate and is centered on addressing the major and minor hurdles of everyday families and family-owned businesses.

Active in her community, Jenny serves as a business counselor through SCORE of Holland; volunteers her time to the Events Committee for the Board of the Holland Historic Trust; is past Member of the Greater Muskegon Jaycees; and past Member of Holland Young Professionals. She is also a regular guest speaker at Estate Planning and Business educational seminars.

Jenny and her husband, Kyle, are proud members of the Holland community and enjoy life in west Michigan with their two sons, Grayson and Zachary.

Lauren graduated from Davenport University in 2018 with a BBA in Marketing with a specialty in Advertising and Promotion. Lauren has been a Special Events Intern with CityVu Events and a Marketing Intern with Navigate Creative Works.

Though Lauren’s formal education focused on the marketing field, she has found a passion for legal studies while working at Buckman MacDonald & Brown throughout her college career. Specializing in the areas of estate planning and administration, probate law, business law, entity formations, and real estate transactions, Lauren assists Doug MacDonald, Jeff Buckman, Jim Brown and Jenny DeGraves.

Elaine L. Leva - Office Administrator

Elaine graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2003 with a B.A. in Legal Studies. She joined Buckman MacDonald & Brown as an Office Administrator and Paralegal in 2007.

Elaine's legal background includes the areas of estate planning, business law, and criminal law. She also handles the accounting, payroll, and billing for the firm. 

Elaine and her husband, Todd, live in Zeeland with their two children.

Jenny studied Business Administration at Grand Rapids Community College and began working in the legal field in 1997. She joined Buckman MacDonald & Brown in July 2009 as a paralegal for the litigation team.

Jenny has extensive experience in several areas of the law including: family law, bankruptcy, civil litigation, criminal defense, insurance defense, personal injury, appellate, probate, corporate, real estate, and estate planning. She assists Jeff Buckman and Anne Tuinstra.

Active in the community, Jenny has volunteered for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mel Trotter, and Spectrum Health's Pediatric Unit.
